in today's world of emailing
I send you a postcard
my e-words are tactile
but I send more concrete
as you are aware
words do get lost in the cyber world
but my postcard you can touch,
savour or even inhale
those crooked words speak
(if you read between the lines),
of my recondite emotions
smiles. love the feel of a real letter or postcard...i know i am weird but i smell them as well taking in that last piece of the person that sent it..
ReplyDeletesavour or even inhale
ReplyDeleteReally liked the inhale part, as I've done that.
Everything has become so internet-centric. I often miss the old ways.
I liked the juxtapositioning between e-mailed words and the physical reality of a post card. Nice 55!
ReplyDeleteif you knew how exactly i feel what you tell with your 55! i got a postcard from my daughter lately..she's in bolivia at the moment and i even smelled it...i wrote a poem about it on my blog "she wrote" in case you wanna have a look...nice 55!
ReplyDeleteI love this...and so very true!

Excellent 55 My Friend
Thank You for playing today, and have a Kick Ass Week End....G
A lost art, indeed. I don't write letters any more, but i do still send postcards.
ReplyDeletePostman would come bring in Readers digest and I will invarioably ask him- any letter.. I still wait for letters knowing they won't come with emails pouring in.. Gautami.. are your poems on paper too.. I mean any books.. would like to have a copy..
ReplyDeleteLove -- love letters, love getting postcards, love the pen and ink and something you can feel with your hands and save and savor, I adore your 55er, lovely now just send it in a postcard from India to the USA with warm wishes, and I as well send you warm wishes in a post marked mail saying that your ff 55er is great.,
ReplyDeletecheers,
joanny
no postcards these past years. :(
ReplyDeletenice work! :)
Lovely piece - there is something special about receiving something physical..hopefully it won't disappear comepletely..Jae
ReplyDeleteI love postcards. There is somthing so appealing about the written word. One can print off an email but it seems so....blocky.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I love getting personal mail, but am pretty lousy at remembering to send it. I like the line about smelling the postcard, it goes well with the sending more concrete.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
I like real writing! Guess a chisel would be better than a pen when scribing on concrete!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with this and write a letter to my friend almost every day. there's nothing better than seeing a cheery letter in the mail.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you wrote this!

OK, I'm weird. I send a lot of letters, now condescendingly referred to as "snail mail."
ReplyDeleteI love the feel of putting my own handwriting on the page... sealing the envelope, perhaps writing a bit of verse on the envelope to cheer the postal carrier, and putting on the stamp!
This was my cup of tea, Gautami! Amy
so clever and true. i adore snail mail. it's like love in an envelope. bless you, friend. e.
