all those numbers run around
I catch them
put them in different slots
but they escape again
curious to know each other
I like the picture
logical numbers
going nuts over each other
squares and cubes
climb exponentially
trigonometry breaks
into geometry
they giggle like a kid
and suddenly embrace,
break away guiltily
precalculus is the silent one
it has too much in its pocket
number system spouts euclid's lemma
roots of quadratic are always paired
but you know, it is all statistics
each portion of math says this
If I should die, think only this of me-
how to resurrect those numbers again
OK, that took me back to college and all my Chemistry and Math classes but it didn't resurect any numbers in my mind...I am way to old for that kind of resurection and I am damn sure I won't be eligible for an afterdeath resurection...if there is one.
ReplyDeleteWell, heck. If I had been taught math like it was poetry, I'm sure I would have been much more successful with it.
ReplyDeleteI am bad at numbers and would hate it if they came back into my life...but I enjoyed this sweet poem that shows your love for numbers!
ReplyDeleteYou have given numbers some character beyond the regime of pre-determined function! A fascinating perspective!
ReplyDeleteIf I have nightmares about maths, I'll blame you. Curious.
ReplyDeleteWhat an original way into the prompt..excellent..Jae
ReplyDeleteNumbers have always been curious to me! I like how you've managed to give trigonometry a personality!
ReplyDeleteNumbers are not my thing, however I can certainly sense your love of them here. I envy you that, I always come up blank with them. Great way to respond to the prompt.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
I think they should be locked away - those nutty numbers. :) Numbers run from me, too!
ReplyDeleteFor me, math is sacred. Period.
ReplyDeleteNumbers are an enigma. I'm thankful for calculators. LOL.
ReplyDeleteYou are like me, Gautamy. Math and literature are the same!
ReplyDeleteOops, I did it one more time, Gautami!
ReplyDeleteI really, really loved this. One of your best...gives insight into your passion for your profession.

This is so fun. I am not, I repeat, am not a numbers person. Thank God for poetry.

Ah yes, the fun of the numbers game, hide and seek with them can be fun as well.... :)
ReplyDeletebeautiful way to look at numbers - I am not very good with them but there is definitely something poetic about the way they are always what they are. Lovely poem :)
ReplyDeleteI'm good at Math.. and through poetry, it does seems a whole lot more interesting! :)
ReplyDeleteMy Scribbling Is Here
I love the whole piece though I do absolutely love the third last stanza. Something in the air today that for some reason the third of everything is getting me good. Love and Light, Sender
ReplyDeleteYou must love math I would not have enough knowledge to write this, very very creative indeed!
ReplyDeleteAlways the teacher.......and that's a good thing!
