watch the movie from the sidewalks

I am walking on the sidewalk
trying to find shade
it is a hot summer day
(I know this line sucks!)
asphalt reflects the day's heat
my calfs are burning
through my sneakers

I could have stayed in
within the realms of my home
under the whirring air conditioner
(ah! what a cool thought!)
but I needed to jolt myself
from my lethargy
(heat wakes you up alright!)

I am walking all alone
non-answerable questions
pelting from the ridges
and valleys of that thing
we all know as our mind
(some times I doubt we do
but I got to stick with convention)

not getting into the heavy
philosophy or semantics
I ought to be direct
asking you how to
follow you to the end
of the Universe
and much, much beyond

"hot asphalt may help me run to you
(and a triple sundae wouldn't come amiss)"

  5. Very fine, GT: Of course, you know that a triple sundae is the end of the universe, yes? Lots to love in this poem: my calfs are burning / through my sneakers is my favorite...

  7. Not so sure if a triple sundae would lead you to the end of the Universe , but I am sure it would make u care less about it :P . . .Loved the poem :) . .

  8. fantasies of a lifetime: you missed the whole point. I am not asking to be lead to the end of Universe. But I do ask you to read it again to understand what I really meant.

I like the ridges and valleys!

Some heavy questions here but the light touch at the end puts it all into perspective.

  21. Sounds like loud thinking between a cool beer and a Gin-Tonic, interesting use of ironic self-reflections.

    Best wishes

  23. indeed i get a jolt when i leave the soft safe confines of my own little world and go out to tramp around in the blistering heat of reality, to be bombarded by all the self-doubt and questions i run up against and from --- forever looking for the restaurant at the end of the universe to find a double chocolate triple sized hot fudge sundae upon which to gorge --- only to discover that reality has made me so sick to my stomach that i need to escape back to my safe place to regroup!!! --- maybe not what you're saying, but it's what i hear when i read this --- great reflection!!!
