I am walking on the sidewalk
trying to find shade
it is a hot summer day
(I know this line sucks!)
asphalt reflects the day's heat
my calfs are burning
through my sneakers
I could have stayed in
within the realms of my home
under the whirring air conditioner
(ah! what a cool thought!)
but I needed to jolt myself
from my lethargy
(heat wakes you up alright!)
I am walking all alone
non-answerable questions
pelting from the ridges
and valleys of that thing
we all know as our mind
(some times I doubt we do
but I got to stick with convention)
not getting into the heavy
philosophy or semantics
I ought to be direct
asking you how to
follow you to the end
of the Universe
and much, much beyond
"hot asphalt may help me run to you
(and a triple sundae wouldn't come amiss)"
End of universe. There is so much philosophy in this. Nice one here.
ReplyDeleteThis poem, like others you write, have a wonderful narrative flow to them.
ReplyDeleteYou like amazing poems. I like your easy writing style. A easy writer, that's what you are. Keep Writing.

Very fine, GT: Of course, you know that a triple sundae is the end of the universe, yes? Lots to love in this poem: my calfs are burning / through my sneakers is my favorite...
ReplyDeleteNice esy conversational style...difficult questions.
ReplyDeleteNot so sure if a triple sundae would lead you to the end of the Universe , but I am sure it would make u care less about it :P . . .Loved the poem :) . .
ReplyDeletefantasies of a lifetime: you missed the whole point. I am not asking to be lead to the end of Universe. But I do ask you to read it again to understand what I really meant.
ReplyDeletewarrier poet: what exactly do you mean by an easy writer?
ReplyDeletenice flow that describes what I just what I was doing
ReplyDeleteAs the first hot day here today, I can realte, enjoyed this very much Gautami ;)

"non-answerable questions
ReplyDeletepelting from the ridges

I like the ridges and valleys!
Some heavy questions here but the light touch at the end puts it all into perspective.
Heavy, but great flow to it.
ReplyDeleteVery thoughtful. I like the image of the triple sundae at the end.
ReplyDeleteyou write so beautifully!
ReplyDelete:)
Hi Gautami, there's a virtual triple sundae waiting for you on my blog - all you have to do is follow me - then you can ask!
ReplyDeleteim getting close....double sundae...then another double choco sundae after the hockey game...that will put out there somewhere....after my one beer and popcorn....another great read from you
ReplyDeleteWell well...With all the hot temperatures,i would simply stay indoors. End of Universe for me will be my BED.
ReplyDelete:)but not as hot (or humid) over here. i am sweating just sitting down. :)
ReplyDeleteit's quite coll here, come over :)
ReplyDeletei follow beind my kids
Sounds like loud thinking between a cool beer and a Gin-Tonic, interesting use of ironic self-reflections.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Ralf
To the End of the Universe...this line struck me most. This poem is simple yet poignant!

LITERARY WORKS
BOOK OF SALAMAT
indeed i get a jolt when i leave the soft safe confines of my own little world and go out to tramp around in the blistering heat of reality, to be bombarded by all the self-doubt and questions i run up against and from --- forever looking for the restaurant at the end of the universe to find a double chocolate triple sized hot fudge sundae upon which to gorge --- only to discover that reality has made me so sick to my stomach that i need to escape back to my safe place to regroup!!! --- maybe not what you're saying, but it's what i hear when i read this --- great reflection!!!
ReplyDeletei like that you bring us from the mundane to the metaphysical question you seem to be asking and then back again...slipsliding
ReplyDeleteExcellent take on the prompts ... love your imagery :)
