cut a lemon into half
you stuck that fork into a lemonI can't look at it nowyou made the sourness disappearI don't have affinity for bitternesswhat do you carry in your satchelyou fidget when I ask for itI will not mention it againif you share that glass with me"whose blood came out of lemon,or is it only reddened tears?"
Sweet, bitter and a wonderful slice of darkness on the side..Jae
ReplyDeleteA great take on the pic.
ReplyDeleteWhen heart bleeds, tears are red.. I loved where you reached..
ReplyDeleteOooh, great ending! And that first line is intriguing! I'm still thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteOoh very well done!
ReplyDeleteyou dish dark words with perfect bitterness ..

ReplyDeleteSharing that glass ~ solves so much.
ReplyDeleteVery mysterious... I like it!
ReplyDeletereddened tears - interesting thought. Nice piece!
ReplyDeleteMudering a lemon? Hmm... different!
ReplyDeleteLove the ending. Makes me think it would make a wonderfully surreal country song.
ReplyDeleteVery good use of the prompts within a highly readable and enjoyable poem.
ReplyDeletebeautiful.
ReplyDeleteOoohh...deliciously dark..and so full of suspense... and both these criteria are every high on my list! :)
ReplyDeleteA great read, Gautami!
I wonder if that glass was ever shared...
Gautami,
ReplyDeleteI myself would have shared the glass.
(Perhaps it's a hybrid: a 'blood-lemon'?)

Well done but, of course, you've left me full of questions...what was in the satchel...did he share the glass with you.

By the way, I watched the movie,
"No One Killed Jessica" last night
( I love Indian films ). Very sad.
Gautami, I did not see this one coming out of those prompt words. The image alone was startling enough, but the idea of the bleeding lemon (heart), the bitterness as physical and spiritual... great! So glad you took on this prompt.
ReplyDeleteAmy
so packed with emotion.
