I let my dreams run riot
I think of flaky pastries
soft and melting
may be a chocolate brownie too
sprinkled with nuts
is it paint that has coagulated
sticking to my shoes?I prefer mud
which has your footprints
cemented in it
butter-papered biscuits
burnt in the oven
hardened to carbon
I am left with cobblestones
"if you want you can taste the ground"
Powerful words, as always.
ReplyDelete"which has your footprints
ReplyDeletecemented in it"
Cool line!
Another good one..
ReplyDeleteWho would have thought bricks could make me so hungry?
ReplyDeleteWhat a mixture of strength and temptation..can feel it all!!
ReplyDeletePowerful and wise words, love it :)
ReplyDeleteI said this before but I will say it again. The muddy prints always tell us where we have been.
ReplyDeleteI love this poem, from title to chocolate brownie to tasting the ground.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images in this poem make me hungry as I read.
ReplyDeleteGautami, really like this one, like the delicate bits of food, interspersed with the images of bricks and cemented footprints. As usual, really good writing,
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
Gautami beautiful images created here.

Gautami,
ReplyDeleteWonderful images knocking against each other (as so often you do!)

My favorite part was actually:
ReplyDelete"butter-papered biscuits
burnt in the oven
hardened to carbon"
Maybe not as appetizing as those brownies, but a fantastic chain of phrases.
Oh, nicely done - as usual. Love the butter-papered biscuits...
ReplyDeleteI can see the chocolate brownies in those bricks... the second half of poem is powerful.."mud, which has your footprints cemented in it..." nice...bkm
ReplyDeleteSo many food references from bricks. Although I've had some food that resembled bricks. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteincredibly delicate and enticing... lovely.
ReplyDeletethis was very enticing...chocolate brownies with nuts..I love leaving footprints in the mud. Enjoyed it as always!
ReplyDeleteInteresting vision. The thought of all this food makes me hungry.
ReplyDeleteThis was such an amazing poem - and your imagination really does run riot! So much brilliant imagery! I am hungry just reading your words!
ReplyDeleteI prefer mud
ReplyDeletewhich has your footprints
cemented in it
Aww!! :)
There's a palatable strangeness about this.
ReplyDeleteLove the footprints you have left here... cemented for the world to find.
ReplyDeleteOh I like both of these. They're both "beautiful" in their own ways, different than the other and different from probably the conventional definition of beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe imagery is beautiful here, especially in the second stanza. And the first stanza made me hungry. :)
ReplyDelete-Nicole
wondrous tale.
ReplyDeletewell penned.
