celebration of sorts----Writers Island

copiously crying women
beat at their chests
instead of heart-rending
it was almost comic

he was somewhat surprised
by so many people at one place
and still there was an eerie hush.
his unknown relatives, friends
he had not seen for what seemed eternity
were present but not interacting
strange sight that it was
he moved to the centre
his eyes were drawn
a pristine white shroud

copiously crying women
beat at their chests.
instead of heart-rending
it was almost comic

on an impulse, he pulled it down
recoiled next moment
as his own face stared up at him.

  5. Very dark, Gautami. I'm not sure what sort of celebration's happening here.

  8. A dream I think...we start awake when we awake and are relieved when we realize that we were only asleep in the sun.

  9. 'copiously crying' is such a neat turn of phrase. I like the repetition of the stanza, also. Sums it up nicely.

  11. Many have been written how a person would find out he is dead after dying ~ this one scene is one of the many.

I like the drama and the details.

But nobody really know how it would be after life.

    I wish you well.

  12. This is quite confronting - seeing your cold self - just a shell of life.

    A clever write!
