convulsions cause chaos

studiously she avoids gazing in that direction
where he sits nonchalant, almost uncaring-
minds send out signals; silence so chilling,
picking up vibrations, she answers the question

being very still, with almost no expression,
she slowly stands with her eyes measuring
the distance, she glides toward his beckoning
mind. her heart beat, was by any indication

making her state, an object of ardent desire;
visible in her stance, in her jerky mannerisms.
smoldering flame, blazing; intense, luminous

pulling him in too; each bursting vein on fire
blowing apart their semblance, volumes
of convulsions still unseen, causing chaos

this journey started the right way

if you ever change your mind, give me a ring
we’ll check out the weather to take out the boat
carrying food, clothes and other essential things
go out into the sea, whirring away we float
sleeping it out on the boat, soaking the sun in
to prevent from skin burns, I put up a shade
applying lotions, sunscreens on your fair skin
so soft, so smooth to touch, as velvety as suede

If you rather not we will go to the beach
watch the sea waves so beautifully blue
against my better judgement I slowly reach
out, pulling you into me to love all of you

just when you ask me to take you back to land
reaching for your finger, I push in the gold band!

common man----Sonnet

looking out of my bedroom window, I see
that man toiling; sweating in dust and heat-
pausing for a moment, stands on his feet
then sits down on the floor, wishing to flee
deep in thoughts, he stares at the church door;
longing to escape the sun and retreat
into its calmness, and out of the street-
wishing to be one with God and soar.

his employer yells at him, he comes back
out of his reverie and works yet again.
practical world has intruded for now
ah, well he has to get back on track-
setting aside his thoughts, becomes sane-
with renewed vigour, he toils and how.

love in a sonnet-----Totally Optional Prompts

if you ever change your mind, give me a ring
we’ll check out the weather to take out the boat.
carrying food, clothes, other essential things
going out sailing, whirring away- keep afloat.
sleeping it out, soaking warmth of the sun, in.
to prevent you from sunburns, I put up a shade
applying lotions, sunscreens on your fair skin;
so soft, so smooth to touch, as velvety as suede.

if you rather not, we might go to an isolated beach-
watch those sea waves so beautifully green-blue.
against my better judgement I would slowly reach
out, pulling you into me all of me to love all of you.

just when you ask me to take you back to land
reaching for your finger, I push in the gold band!

Hope this works as a contemporary sonnet!

Bard's Dilemma----Sonnet----[Friday] Fiction

This week, [Fiction] Friday asks us to pick a famous fictional character (for our purposes here it can be any character from fiction, mythology, legend, comic books…whatever) and give them a secret vice—at the very least it should be distasteful if not outright illegal. Now give the character’s rationale in their own words.

Bard's Dilemma----Sonnet

Otherwise known as bard, I have written plays-
tragedies and comedies, along with some sonnets.
My repertoire is vast, as I write nights and days-
poetry does not pay well, empty are my pockets.

Asking for money, I am somewhat always in debt
friends and foes both shun, when it is me they see
I feel like a heel but a man has to survive: dead set
to earn more, I found a way. Stress gone I feel free,

I have not given up composing, that is in my blood,
I write for the masses under another pseudo name.
There is no dearth of words, which can only flood
my mind and flow from my pen- on paper they tame.

Varied writing helps me eat more than baked beans-
as I churn out romances with explicit steamy scenes.

As there is a no edit rule, it is but a rough draft. I will polish it later on.

Feeding Pessimism-----Sonnet

Finished reading yet another book. This time Fury by Salman Rushdie, a birthday gift from my nephew. I think reading it has affected my mood. I am kind of pampering my brooding mood with this sonnet. I do know I am going to be on the top of the world tomorrow. Hence all those who want/try to sympathise, do so at your peril!

But of course, you are welcome to comment and critique the sonnet...:)

#Update: Today(10.07.07) I have been in a upbeat mood. As you can see from a comment by Dewey, I won a book, Murder on the Menu. Thanks Dewey!!

Feeding Pessimism-----Sonnet

descending death, dispirited with melancholy
make one’s blood boil with excessive rage.
glimpsing on dimness which blind do see
and ominously mocking their own presage.

mind at earliest in temperament was done
contemplation is, as a death cannot choose.
but have dominance to hurt, and will shun
all words of encouragement most of us use.

angst would rather take a life, fetching a tomb
closing out from all but taking death on a flight.
cursing this world out to the end of its doom
possessed to go in pursuit of antithesis of delight.

Each altering place, which was never seen before
like those waves generate near encrusted shore!

Abysm-----3WW

Envelope
Negligible
Resent

Abysm---Sonnet

Beyond cure, I am irrational to past care,
envelopes of tomes hide heart's history.
Concocting negligible style every where
providing with tales of untold misery

I stay reproached, fixated to my content.
in philosophical abysm, I hurl all care,
no real excuses for all that I truly resent-
lone moments have crinkles engraved there.

Has nature too joined in to distress me-
notably uncaring every thing that grows
from those festers of agony that no can see;
nevertheless insisting we must not be foes.

Is it viable to put up with it that way-
so all thrive, I am yet again cast away?

Love Ponders---Shakespearean Sonnet---Poetry Thursday

I am back from Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh. It is also known as the abode of His Holiness, Dalai Lama. I will write about that soon.

I will get back to all your posts too!

Here I offer a sonnet for Poetry Thursday though it is friday here. I wrote it a few days back.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
with unseeing eyes my gloom gleams so
i start reassuring her on her eternal discontent-
how like Eve's apple does her allure grow
sweet, lovely and loyal, is all my argument
alert is my heart, to mind’s and soul's delight-
to pristine process, to amalgamations strange
that in black ink my love may still glisten bright.
aeons, you shall not show off that i do change
although pondering kills me, i have not thought
about that where depends birth, affluence or wit
i lament the lack of many a things i have sought
it might seem bare, in coveting words to show it.
these faltering steps give my heart an extra youth
to feed upon the curiosity of surroundings truth.
Flooding Joys----Sonnet----Poetry Thursday
Thinking of profusion where paucity lies
working for that goal where ideas are spend,
ignoring useless predictions and prophecies-
not even depending on thunder, rain and wind.
bringing in authenticated data into their way
changing the course, curing without disgrace
for the anguish to diminish and flow away-
welcoming the stream to our famine-ridden place.
Cascading, cool, and to enticements slow
nevertheless, rivulets overstay their power.
Trickling over fields for green plants to grow
bitterness disappears with their first shower.
Joys abound inwardly at first, bubbling outward,
in so profound a moment, we all look forward
Wings of Tale---Shakespearean Sonnet--3WW
Endless, Ought, Shadow
Wings of Tale
How can ever I know what all you say is true,
turning the corner you saw a wizard’s face?
This kind of talk from you not at all new,
you are prone to see weird things at any place.
Some times, I feel your imaginings are so free,
with your perception, the world ought to change-
fairy tales seem so true, present becomes history;
pictures from playing cards come alive. Strange
shadows seem so normal. None of those decree
work any more around you. Who is going to dwell
about the way you are? My thoughts are let it be,
go ahead make it known what you observe. Tell
it all in vivid details. Let the wings of tales grow,
merging into reality- turning into an endless show!
Powered----Sonnet----Poetry Thursday
I did not get out the map (rivers) for Poetry Thursday as suggested. I wrote a Petrarchan Sonnet (abba cddc effe gg) taking the prompt into a different way. It is but a rough draft.
Powered---Sonnet
Meandering wildly, water from river is directed
to collect at one place. To bestow it with a sense
of purpose, functional for our advance. Hence
opting for highest summit, making it to be fated.
Applying its inherent energy, tapping the source
for human consumption, life’s force- thus water
fulfils all our desires. Thence fore, streaming river
is restrained with our industry; changing its course-
falling forcefully from the high altitude, it flows
downhill with a velocity of such colossal force
out of which is, generated so much of horse-
power of electricity, helping technology grow
within the world, we live in. Meticulously to hilt,
enhancing lives of people; cities are, thus built.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

At some places, water turbines are still used to produce electricity. I didn't want to describe the physics of it, as I don't intend for the sonnet to be technical. I prefer to write structured poetry taking in the modern aspect of our lives.

Nowhere Land-----sonnet-----Poetry Thursday

Random Promt Generator provided the boldly italized words after refreshing a few times as per their prompt, meet the randomizer . I wrote a petrachan sonnet using the same. Again a rough draft...:)

Nowhere Land---Sonnet

all plans gone awry, he was lost in nowhere
land. his eyes spanned but could not hold
varied, vastness of unknown space; never told
by anyone; unrecognisable by those out there.

tribulations of his folly, he had himself to bear
nothingness in darkness, made his heart go cold.
ventured he did into serrated land, with so bold
mind, all miseries forgotten in his demeanour.

each miniscule particle of sand in the desert
pierced like needle into sensitive skin; barrage
of it spiralled upwards towards the azure sky.

despite adversity, his optimist thinking- just
saved him from further doom, some strange
force showed him way out, for him to say bye.

Ode to the Bard---Sonnet---Poetry Thursday

prompt is to (1) Write a poem to, for, or about a poet and/or (2) Write a letter to a poet as given here. I take on part (1). That works well as a letter too, I think.

Ode to the Bard

writing this for you, oh great master
one of the best, your work adulated.
you wrote plays, mostly convoluted;
reading those, your words give pleasure;

the depth of which has no measure-
your work- even now, does not seem dated.
all lines and stanzas are there fated
by your popular appeal, poetic grandeur.

excelling in both comedy as well as tragedy;
you take us to a world full of imagery.
most quoted writer of literature & history;

your repertoires of sonnets are remedy
for beauty, love, mortality. discovery
of all these leading us to joyful allusory!

..............................................................

Here I write a
Petrarchan Sonnet in which the rhyming pattern is a-b-b-a, a-b-b-a, c-d-e-c-d-e. Sonnets by Shakespeare follow the rhyming pattern a-b-a-b, c-d-c-d, e-f-e-f, g-g . Those are English Sonnets . As I am the one writing it, I can chose the style..!! And please do not ask me about iambic pentameter.

For various types of sonnets click,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonnet

Finally, I dedicate this to a very dear friend, Stanley Shiel who made me go back to Shakespeare and Sonnets.

Journey of Ink----Deemed Sonnet

starting from nowhere, where does it end?
going on, stopping a while, resting along
saga continues, spirit being so strong-
circles, curves, squiggling at the bends,

stories are told, cut short once more, tend
to go off in a tangent, nothing goes wrong
as it has to travel miles, pausing for a song;
poised above words, jerked out; sends

signals to follow travellers, regaling anecdotes
of various stop over, amusing details retold
again and again which becomes part of lore

to be memorized; recalled akin to a side note
on the margins of a text marked muted or bold
this goes on until nothing is left of ink's valour.

....................................................................................

Rhyming Pattern for this is abba abba cde cde
