I swirled around your words
sometimes wisdom
many a times trivia
neither a lethal moment
my tears turned to laughter
or vice versa
so much emotions hinged
in the in-between silences
morning turned to nights
nights into dawn
exchange of mind did not end
as it could not identify time
I know, it is not true when they say,
it's only words.
and words are all I have,
as you see me beyond that
we might not exchange a single word
for weeks to come,
yet the silence will make us
gravitate towards each other
"friendship is too mild a word for what we share,
the day I lose you, I will need to call it that"
I have a friend, a very old friend, whom I can go years without seeing, yet when we exchange words, it is as if we have never been apart. This is an excellent post, my blogger friend!!
ReplyDeleteour words carry a lot of power...and with that a lot of responsibility....they kill, or give life...
ReplyDeleteI have friends that I relate to just like this and your poem speaks to that kind of relationship with eloquence ...

This is packed with meaning: the importance of words, the meaning of friendship and the depth of silence.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem.
The in between of words is where love and friendship is most precious..a fine swirl..jae
ReplyDeleteI love the connection described here, and hope it is never lost. Especially love "morning turned to nights/ nights into dawn/exchange did not end". Lovely.
ReplyDeleteLots to think about in this writing. Thanks for your visit and comment which led me over here. :) I enjoyed the post.
ReplyDeleteSilence and Word--a necessary dialectic for any good relationship. Nice work on this poem, I enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteI love those kinds of connections where words aren't always needed and you can pick up right where you left off after not seeing each other for awhile...very nicely put...a deep 'friendship' you describe here.
ReplyDeleteSo very powerful! I have had such friends :) Silence is comfortable :)
ReplyDeleteWords! Unspoken or spoken between to kindred spirits is something magical. Lovely

ReplyDeleteFeelings are what bind. Words are just padding.
ReplyDeleteNone more so than word verification. :-)
Gautami,
ReplyDeleteRead 3 poems now. You have a way with words to convey emotions, be it sensual or feeling of hurt or unspoken love. It is pleasure to read. Hope you have collection published.
Take care
Like others said, I too have one... a relationship that has been worded here so beautifully..
ReplyDeleteLovely verse as always!
Wow! I have experienced this...can so relate to this.
ReplyDeleteMy maternal grandmother always said that truly good friends can sit in silence together.
ReplyDeleteI think she meant that you can enjoy being together without talking so much, if you really know each other well enough.
Your poet expresses some interesting ideas about friendship and words.
It's beautiful and thought-provoking.
Best wishes,
Anna

A lovely poem not a wasted word ... what joy!
ReplyDeletestunningly beautiful. very heartfelt. it really is amazing the power of words spoken and how they can carry through the silence.
ReplyDeleteI was watching a music show today and one of the judges said, "No matter what you sing, it's always true to you."
ReplyDeleteThat statement really applies to your writing.
You change the emotion and the rhythm and the meter and the words and it is still always you and your fabulous style shining through.
Your eloquence amazes and impressed me every time I read it.
You make it look effortless.
