Summer Night, 1913, by Albert Bloch |
on a hot summer night
they were shivering
melting iced statues
cooled the air.
their ardour did not cool
purple night enhanced it
staring at the tableau
I violated their space
a voyeur in that whorled ground
sky spangled with weird lights
no stars soothing the vastness
tree were akin to the limbs of an octopus,
tentacles touching everywhere
aura of desire has a strong pull
I hug myself thinking of you
"heat is never far away,
close your eyes, feel the fire, arctic fire"
Oh, this is good, Gautami. You find wonderful things in the artwork, and you pass them on to us.
ReplyDeleteFire and ice are not too unalike in how they can each burn.
ReplyDeleteThis is quite surreal and yet, real in it's genuine emotions felt by us all too.
A great capture of the prompt pic Gautami.
Those last two lines are so poignant..such a rich world trying to be remembered in her arms..jae
ReplyDeleteMelting ice statues. I didn't see that.
ReplyDelete"aura of desire has a strong pull" Amen to that!
I liked this, so magical and mystical and then the way you brought it back to a person in your life... beautiful. I especially was intrigued by the line "I violated their space/ a voyeur in that whorled ground". Very beautiful.

ReplyDeleteI really admire the temperature contrasts that you expressively grouped through out this poem Gautami.... 'hot night, shivering'...'melting, cooled the air'.... ending with 'arctic fire'. You are so talented with your word choices! Thank you for sharing this. It's fantastic! =D
