Venus and The Sailor, 1925, by Salvador Dali |
to serenade with you
our dark glasses hiding us
the water is still
but we are splashing the ship
where did you send your crewmen
are they on a tryst like you?
I understand solitude,
the need of it
and why not-
it is a constant for me
"come my sailor, let me go now
sky waits to take me to mars
where my podgy thighs might thin out"
I crave my solitude. Days drag when I leave it behind, waiting for my return.
ReplyDeleteVery strong work. Salute!
If we have to go Mars to lose the podgy thighs there's no hope left.
ReplyDeleteI understand the need for solitude...
ReplyDeleteYou are the second poster to have some Dali in your link....I love the cadence and flow of this...I felt the tide turn....
ReplyDeleteI agree about the Dali. Podgy thighs? Mars is out of the question, so I take the stairs! As for solitude, yes, that's when I write, and crave I do... Lovely! Peace, Amy

ReplyDeleteWow...loved it:)
ReplyDeletelovely...
ReplyDeleteLovely poem. I don't know whether Mars is a good idea... to sojourn with the God of War ....or maybe she want a baptism of fire :)
ReplyDeleteSolitude is a weight and yet also teaches a lot..Jae
ReplyDeleteLike other readers, I gravitate to your handling of solitude and its many facets.
ReplyDeleteMy podgy thighs...made me smile.
ReplyDeleteLovely imagery.
love this
ReplyDeleteespecially the italicized bit at the end.

Podgy thighs or no, everyone craves love even Venus. Many artists seem to have a desire to destroy women's beauty, it must be envy. So much admiration over the centuries clearly palls, I can hear her saying "Stop looking at me, listen to what I am saying."
ReplyDeleteI never thought of Venus as craving solitude. :)
ReplyDeleteEven Venus desires to be loved once in a while. The tryst is so ethereal..
ReplyDeleteSince i met her , i have never felt alone, but sometimes lonely.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful my friend. Love the image you have added to your words. Excellent.

Gautami,
ReplyDeleteRead 2 poems now. An artist does not let creative side falter for long. Constant solitude does affect one.
Take care
