itchy, scratchy, welted
small fissures on the skin was nothing new for her
red dots appeared randomly when she had stress
without rhyme or reason
her travel plans had come up
along with it the eruptions which skewed everything
this time those itchy parts felt foreign to her touch
from elbow to wrist
what? how many centimetres of skin affected?
you can't expect her to do it in the arithmetic way-
not when she is busy scratching those welts
*Update: This isn't about me. It is a fictional piece written for [Fiction] Friday and Friday 5. I got smooth skin!

I think that you should add up all your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteYou have only scratched the surface.
this was fun to read - nice writing!
ReplyDeleteStress! That explains it! I loved it, thanks for sharing it. Now where did I put that long sleeve shirt..........? :-)
ReplyDeletea smile and a very serious thought beneath it
ReplyDeleteitches/urticaria etc are a nightmare - or would be if they'd let me get to sleep
thank you
Uhoh, stress will sneak out the body when it is being ignored in the mind, i recommend dancing, singing, and running naked through fields of daffodils in the moonlight,
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of my soul sister - who suffered excema all her life. Her mother would tie her hands to the cot so she would not scratch herself!
ReplyDeleteThere's no sense to just how deep you scratch when its overtaken all sense and reason (man itching is mind altering!) - loved the way that you said it.
Thankfully my nervous rash years ago was only bright and ugl - it never itched (that would have just been insult to injury!)
Well, I'm late. But, I did enjoy reading your poem this morning. Stress will do that to you every time. Thanks for sharing. Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteYep, that'll do it.
ReplyDeleteI use CeraVe lotion for #2. It really helps keep things under control. And does really nice things to my skin, too.
I can't stand itching. I hate it.
ReplyDeletea serious matter brought out in a humorous way... love it
ReplyDeleteOw. Glad it's fiction - you've made it sound miserably uncomfortable!
ReplyDeleteouch.......
ReplyDeleteSometimes we forget how the body and mind are so intimately connected. The skin is an obvious reminder when we break out in a rash. Your poem makes the point quite vividly.
ReplyDeleteAnother post that leaves me itching for more :-)
ReplyDeleteyour itch for writing comes out clearly through this scratchy poem! :) one light read, i guess, compared to your other mostly heavy ones.
