the beast demands

the beast demands-
has demanded for eternity
and we give in to it
the blood and gore
weapons of the past
decorate the wall
blood-stained wall
now painted dark red
hide the ugliness of violent death

"he shuns the olden weapons
reaches for his light-sabre,
feeding the beast thus.."

  1. Gautami,

Our 'take' on warfare seems hand-in-hand.

How do you inter-related the quotations with the poems -- it's an interesting process.

  4. Nice poem! The outward beauty of the sword and shield can't deny the blood they have spilled. Say no to wars..

  5. We do. Give in to it. Slow learners. A well written piece!

  6. This time a rainbow warrior born
I claim it as my way
Not my task to render flesh torn
'Tis time for a brand new day
Now I put it all to very different end
I did not come back to kill and die
But to be a warrior among healing men
With the light of love in my eye

  8. I hope soon, we tame the beast. Unfortunately, it doesn't look that way. Your poem speaks volumes of truth.

  9. Beasts can be so greedy - the root of all evil!

    Nice One Shot, Gautami!

  10. What does the beast fear that he is so angry? Where is his sadness that he continues to lash out? When will the madness stop?

  11. I like your response to the prompt. War is so often glorified, often quite unintentionally.

  12. If only the light would lead us out of the dark. A wise poem indeed, Gautami.

  14. There is always so much depth to your writing. Much is said with an economy of words. Good writing!

  15. The Beast, eat or be eaten. Tough choice, unless you simultaneously yield your arms. Here's to hope. In this day, killing for convenience starts early.

    Well written and thoughtful piece.

  20. The quotations are my own. It is my signature, u can say, the way I keep those separated from the poem..

  21. I recognized the quote
as your voice; I agree this
    is a very powerful statement,
    muscular poetics, for the beast
    bursts from within us all,
    carried like our god force,
    hidden behind organs, sometimes
surfing through our blood as it
boils, as it pounds in our temples,
or in the temples of the Infidels.

  22. I think the beast is going to need creative farming rather than weapons of mass destruction to keep it fed.

    Great poetry, though!
