Bundle of joy----3WW

Burning
Quietly
Taxi

She wakes up with a start and checks on her infant son. His skin is no longer burning. Fever has come down. She falls to her knees, still holding him and sobs quietly so as not wake her husband in the other room. She rains his face with kisses and holds him tight. Tired, she falls asleep again holding him to her heart right on the floor of the nursery.

Next morning, her husband finds her thus sleeping peacefully with almost a child like expression. Without reacting, he turns and talks to someone on his cell phone.

“It can’t go on like this much longer. I will bring her today,” he says and calls for a taxi.

He gets ready, wakes her up, and looks with grimace at the bundle on her chest. Gently lifting it, he puts it on the cradle. Holding her close, he says, “It is time to let go, my love. Today onwards, we will both undergo counselling until you get better. Our son has been dead for four years and we both need to deal with it.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is a true account. She recovered and has two children now.
  3. Your story is so moving. I can really feel for both the wife and her husband. I don't have kids but I can relate to the quiet despair of having lost one because of your words. Thank you. :)
  8. Interesting we both wrote about babies today.
    Very moving.
    I can feel all of the grief and the hope from this piece. Well done!
  9. Beautifully done... and so true. I've seen women that cannot let go, cannot allow themselves to see what is in front of them, when I was still practicing medicine.
    Your eyes see, your heart feels, and the words relate.
  10. Gautami, I am grateful you told us the ultimate outcome, because I was pulled into her grief because you told it so simply. I was torn between feeling her pain and the separate double pain of her husband. You rescued me from my empathy in time.
  11. I'm looking beyond that and into the story itself. This has the makings of a wonderful story, or a powerful essay. Either way, it has the potential to be a comforting, and inspirational, piece for others out there in similar situations.
    What a moving piece. Bravo.
  15. Grief is powerful. Love can be more powerful. Glad that she had somebody to love her, and help her--four years, really?
    The writing was beautiful
  16. I wasn't expecting that ending. Well done.
  17. I didn't expect the ending--that's powerful--losing a child is the worst thing one can experience and even after having other wonderful children, you often think back
  18. Your piece pulls at the heartstrings. Beautifully written though. When I read that it was a true story I was pleased to see that they got the help they needed in the end and rose above the pain to have other children. I have one child in high school and couldn't imagine my life without her.
    Thanks for sharing this piece.
    I also wanted to say thank you for your comments on my piece. I can't wait to apply your suggestion.
  19. Thanks for your comments. It is not easy dealing with a loss of a child. Some people cannot cope. She too couldn't. She was ok....well seemed ok, in the day time but come night..she broke down. The doctor had advised more kids but she was not interested at that time. Her husband supported her.
    But there had to be a turning point. So they went and saw psychiatrist and after many long sessions, she recovered. Though she has two kids now she still remembers her first born. Normal, I would say.
    We never stop her from talking about him.
    And yes, she would never have done it without her husband'slove and support.
  20. Wow, that was a very moving piece of writing, and sk beautifully told. I am glad she has recovered, as much as you from such a tragedy.
  21. I was thinking what a nice tale of a parent's love for their child, and then, wow.
    Well structured. Powerful and moving.
    I knew a lady who dealt with the loss of a young child, and this all reads very much like how I remember her.
  22. Wow. That was well written. (I only write the short and sweet ones on Bone's blog because it takes me forever to compose anything longer that is worth reading). :o)
  23. It is a very strong piece. I don't know how difficult it is to lose a child but I know how it is to lose someone you love. It is heartbreaking and sometimes it's so difficult to bounce back. Very well done!
  24. This is heartbreaking, but you did a great job with it. I should have been able to guess the end, but didn't. I was blind-sided.
