on that newly laid pavement
an unset tile tilted-
I found myself on ground
almost nose to nose with the cobbler
scent of used leather, shoe glue
touched my horizon
I saw lights filtering from tattered tarp
all other lights vanished
I took stock of my surroundings
my shoe broken now,
I offered it to him soundlessly
as he repaired it, he said,
"now you can walk to the end of the world"
Hi Guatami.. that's very interesting...
ReplyDeletePoor you! I hope you didn't hurt yourself?
ReplyDeleteWhat a good story--hope it isn't true!
ReplyDeleteIt would be a bit of good fortune to break one's shoe and find a cobbler RIGHT there! Here they are few and far between.
ReplyDeleteThat's what poets do: turn every experience, however uncomfortable, into a poem. Bravo.
ReplyDeleteOh I am so sorry you stubbed your shoe on an uneven tile. How lucky you were to get help from the cobbler. I've fallen on a street before and ended up with endless bruises. Hope you are OK.
ReplyDeleteGuatami, thanks again, and here I second Viv's thought that a poet turns each moment into a poem. Could go even further, a good poet offers thoughts, one can hold in the palm of ones hand after walking away. You do that for me.

Gautami, if this a true life experience, I hope you did not hurt yourself! Nicely written piece!

What a happenstance to find a cobbler right there! I like your poem a lot, well written.
ReplyDeleteWonderfully written post! If I ever fell, I would want there to be pie right their next to me, LOL!

I like that last line.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a favorite. I love that last line.
ReplyDeleteAnd may your future path be a smooth one! I enjoyed this telling of a mis-hap...
ReplyDeleteOuch. I love the way the ending turns this around.
ReplyDeleteLove the ending. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd sure, I'll bet you can! Wonderful imagery, as always!
ReplyDeleteYour descriptions made me really feel as if I was there...good work!
ReplyDeleteI liked the line right at the beginning, "an unset tile tilted." It tripped me right up and you had me. I too loved the last line.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous quote, ending, idea!
ReplyDeletevery well written...a small story ...small things which can actually relate to bigger problems in life...and i loved the quote at the end..
ReplyDeleteYou paint with words.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure about the math thing?
"When the student needs, the teacher appears!" Of course there was a cobbler right there. No, that isnt it! The canny old bastard loosened the tile himself! ha ha!
