invisible to naked eyes
virus of jealousy crawls,
snaking into touching distance.
stage has been set up
for the next kill as destruction
has taken away the thrill.
chasing gives a kick
when there is nothing else to pick.
raging green-eyed monster
within the mind of the adversary-
is the best reward one can get
jealousy is a dangerous thing unless kept under control...
ReplyDeletepowerfully written!
Your writings are always an insightful and interesting read.
ReplyDeleteGreat piece on jealousy, with strong verbs and imagery!
ReplyDeleteJealousy is always a dangerous and cruel motivator.
ReplyDeleteCool! I like the last stanza's recital of 'living well is the best revenge'. Neat!
ReplyDeleteI particularly like these lines and their cheeky rhymes:
ReplyDeleteor the next kill as destruction
has taken away the thrill.
chasing gives a kick
when there is nothing else to pick.
An interpretation

This is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteoooohhh sometimes it ever so much fun to be the evil one... loved it!!!
ReplyDeleteThis was a very strong piece, Gautami. The green-eyed monster is a force to be reckoned with.
ReplyDeleteA strong piece, tightly written.
ReplyDeleteI don't read the monster as jealousy but as something that stop us from doing what we want,
ReplyDeletequite thought provoking
Jealousy is a virus and so well written this is! I remember always hearing about the 'ugly green head of jealousy' when I was growing up and here we have the one-eyed green monster! The one eye is so deep since it is a form of funnel vision --- but I agree this can represent so much more than just jealousy!
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your poem, I saw Jealousy as a green snake, slithering. Very good- you create a menacing tone, and then make it even more pronounced by having the narrator delight in someone else's jealousy. Did I read that correctly?
ReplyDeleteFor being so short, this poem packs quite a story and leaves room for ample speculation as to what's actually happening there. I would tend to agree with Christine, i.e. "having the narrator delight in someone else's jealousy."
ReplyDeletepowerful words on the emotions of jealousy... as outta control as a raging fire..
