pit of your spit-----One Single Impression

dipped in spit of your self-loathing

you idolise it, almost worshipping it
that's what gives you a high, which
drugs never did. you draw attention
to yourself comparable to a child's,
who cannot know better, but what's
your excuse. your tore your own soul-
abused your inner wisdom. wearing
cynicism up your sleeve, you pretend
ignorance. one of these days, it will
fall apart, you will go back to old ways,
that sane voice lost forever. till then
we too dip in your glory of self-pity.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a rant in the form of a verse. Although, when I offered glory as a prompt, I did not intend for it to be written like this. Not by me, not by anyone else. Nonetheless, this goes out for all those who are self-obssessed. Loathing or pitying oneself is a form of self-obssession. That cynicism they assume, is all a hog-wash and crumbles under its own weight.
  1. I am a cynic, and I am obsessed with myself.
  2. I loved the phrase "wearing
    cynicism up your sleeve". It's sounds sneaky!
  3. Like "Will Think 4 Wine," I love the phrase "wearing cynicism up your sleeve." I have never seen a poem done like this, so I've learned something. I enjoyed this very much. Thanks for this week's prompt and models!
  5. Having read your poems on the one single impression site, I wondered what this one had to do with glory...until I got to the end.
  6. Great take on your prompt!
    I know a few people that I thought of while reading this! They are very close to me. And two things i've learned in life are, you can't tell someone how to feel, and you'll never change who they are!
    I loved the way you used glory here!
  7. Neat rant, but the sad thing is, most people like this don't realize it.
  8. This is very powerful writing--I see others in it, and in all honesty, I see myself in it, too. I need to go away and think about this.
    Wonderful entry!
  9. powerful rant poem - full of truth... I like the last line - glory of your self pity. I have known people (my brother, actually) like that - and have, I'm afraid to say, waded in that pool on more than one occasion.
  10. Vituperous, my friend. (Did I spell that right?)
    Did you ever see Trevor's first poem, where he shreds the whole concept of angst? Let me know if you need help finding it. It would go well with this piece, I think.
  11. Wonderful rant in verse. Did you know, gautami, the only thing that distinguishes prose from poetry is the length of the line. The prose line goes all the way to the right side of the page... :)
    Mine is up for your pleasure!
  12. I like this, but I like the words you write about it just as much. It sounds like people I know, people I can't help not matter how I try, because they just CAN NOT let go of their own self-loathing. It is sad, and it hurts the people who love them...and sometimes it means letting them go.:(
    ;)
  16. .."your glory of self-pity"..'your' here,in my opinion, stands for a 'masochist' ie any
    person who revels in the morbid acts of self-punishment'/self-injury etc,"dipped in (the) spit" of "self-loathing".-'God would punish the masochist he would be stranded in 'happiness'!( a masochist by definition hates to be happy)That is how i phrased one of my comments wrt the previous prompt}.Apropos this submissionon 'Glory'- comment revised to
    -'God should punish the masochist he should be stranded in 'happiness'.After all why must the masochist escape justice?Congrats on the imaginative post and the thought-provoking 'rant'..and for suggesting a glorious prompt!
  17. wow the words are strong in this one. I feel that everyone is like this at one or more times in their lives. It comes with growing up.
  18. Like Willthink4wine and Sandy, I love "wearing
    cynicism up your sleeve, you pretend
    ignorance."
    And "dipped in spit of your self-loathing
    you idolise it" is a really strong opener - wonderful poem.
  19. "abused your inner wisdom" - that's my key phrase in this strong piece. That's what one must stop doing.
  22. Good morning!
    I often think that obsession is a symptom of feeling so poorly about oneself that it becomes self-loathing. I feel bad for people like that because it is no way to live. I wish happiness for them. This was a powerful poem and I feel it comes from personal experience with somebody.
  23. What an arresting opening line!
    And yes, self pity is a bit like a morning glory. Any self realised beauty is very short-lived.
  25. This might be one of my favorite poems of yours. I don't see it as a rant, but rather the observations of an astute narrator. I will never look at self-pity the same way again.
