me, only with myself
nothing else.
not quite, a tiny glimpse of you
in my minds eye, I cease being
what I truly am. I become a part of you;
strange it may seem, without you being
here by my side. my palms open to
span your chest, finding nothing,
yet my nostrils pick up your scent.
"for me, your very thought is homecoming"
Simply brilliant........as always
ReplyDeleteOh this is lovely! I especially like the last line. Well done Gautami.

I like it! I have been there.
ReplyDelete..
Sometimes the people we love are more home than an actual place.
ReplyDeleteGreat insight. Thank you for sharing this.
in a way, this is exactly how I feel right now. Someone is so close to the heart, yet so far away. I dont know if my life will make sense later on when I come to a point of making decisions, but the persistent memory deceives me everyday to still love and not let go. I just wish the others feel the same way, let it be even to support you in the face of others who are just there to provide distraction.
ReplyDeleteThis is something many will be able to identify with and you have brought it out really well.
ReplyDeleteThis is brilliant! My dear grandmother's have both been gone well over 20 years, but I often will recall a fond moment and the sounds and smells flood back. They live within my heart.
ReplyDeleteI've been there. There's nothing harder than reaching out and touching an empty space. It is good to consider how there really is no space between where one life ends and another begins.
ReplyDeletegautami, a lovely sad poem. A perfect one single impression. :)
ReplyDeleteI always love what you do, and this one is no exception - deeply beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSuch a simple yet emotional poem.
ReplyDeleteIt is very nice and sounds true poetry should be true.
ReplyDeleteBye!
What simple love here... I'm envious.
ReplyDeleteNice, but sad!:(
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful
ReplyDeleteIsn't it so totally amazing how a scent, a sound, a memory can carry you to a place within your heart which transcends miles and miles of aloneness. Your words are consoling.
ReplyDeleteHow sensitive, moving and romantic! Loved the mood and the imagination giving the soul a home with just a thought!
ReplyDeleteLovely poem. That last line is one of those magic lines that is poetry itself. I'm not participating this week but I thought I'd pop around and see what others were up to anyway. Lovely poem.
ReplyDeletenice ending. presence is a feeling isn't it. I remember it sweeping over me way back and saying automatically I love you to a him not there. mom was startled.
ReplyDeleteNot strange at all. We don't have to be together to feel the connection. Good poem.
ReplyDeleteg, so glad you decided to keep writing... there is something so heart warming and complete... reaching out and touching another... is there anything else so pure and trusting..
ReplyDeleteI really like the lines, 'without you being here by my side. my palms open. . ." There is such an expansiveness of emotion in this poem. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSo intuitive! Lovely!
ReplyDeletelovely. :) i like the last line. where notwithstanding the distance, that person's scent still seems to linger.
ReplyDeleteGautami, that is a wonderful poem. I adore the build-up to a spectacular closing.
