warm feeling----One Single Impression
when droplets of rain travelled on dark clouds,
they waited to be shed at an appropriate time.
I stood there watching out for the first drops
of rains on my head, wanting and welcoming it,
a warm feeling of anticipation cocooning me.
as I waited with a peppy song in my heart,
winds came out of nowhere dispersing them
to tiny useless drops on the parched earth-
making dust rise out of it, the smell hitting
my nostrils. instead of rains, now I was swathed
with dust, a cloud of it surrounded me, almost
trapping me. somehow I escaped and as usual
my shower was simulated rainy day for me.

I can relate to this, especially this week. They've been promising us rain for weeks and it gets a little cloudy and then the sun shines once more. Teasing me, yet again.
ReplyDeletewonderful
ReplyDeleteThis souns almost like it could be April-Promising rain ,then not delivering! T.S. Eliot was right about it being the cruelest month.
ReplyDeleteYou did an excellent job on this.
Thank You!
This is the rain that hangs in the air instead of falling.
ReplyDeleteHope, and all the reasons for it, blown away by experience. You have captured this so vividly, I can see it and even feel the dust. I like your return to the shower! We can make hope new. Thanks for this wonderful piece.

Such feeling and creativity! Lovely, gautami! :D
ReplyDeletein can smell the approaching rain in your words...& that feeling of desertion in the 'useless drops' is palpable. very vivid
ReplyDeleteI like your closing lines:
ReplyDelete'trapping me. somehow I escaped and as usual
my shower was simulated rainy day for me.'
Wanting to be showered by true rain instead of by indoor plumbing seems more like a primeval urge that modern life removes from us.
This poem reminds me of the rain that never reaches the ground in Colorado called verga. You see it coming but it never arrives.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful - I can totally relate to this feeling:) my hometown boasts of a lot of rains ... made me nostalgic; beautiful poetry!
ReplyDeletenice, it's raining her today, but it's not warm, quite cool for this time of the year
ReplyDeleteLovely poem. Like sage, we are having cool rainy weather where I am. I like the way you brought all the senses into this. Very visceral and evocative.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, been there many times.
ReplyDeleteI love your imagey - you're so good at it! I can smell the dust with you, feel the anticiaption with you...
good stuff.
Wonderful work. That rains promise teases and evades. I love the smell of the air "after" the fall. So clean and sweet.
ReplyDeleteIt is just beautifully written and so visual!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you described the anticipation of rain. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteThis has also been my experience with whimsical rain clouds. You have captured that feeling of anticipation very well. And also the frustration of a eight inch rain. (We call it that because you get a drop every eight inches.) Well done!
ReplyDeletereally enjoyed this one... felt as if i was right there... another afternoon in the everyday life.. especially enjoyed the shower...
ReplyDeleteI smelled that unpleasant and oh so identifiable smell at the word "useless". Hot. Astringent. Musty. The poem felt utterly real to me.
ReplyDeleteoh! that described the feeling so well
