eerily blue

Photo: Gathering by AlicePopkorn

I erased the orange light

painted it eerily blue
outlines of the birds
flew into me
wheels stopped in wasteland
yet I found a tree
birds scattered into nowhere
but returned and gathered near me
in such a place of quietude
they too fell silent
we watched the fading light
and drowsily fell asleep

when sands came from all sides
all of us were buried alive.

"if you come and dig now,
you will discover the fossilized we."

leaves clinging to me like limpets

brown dots of decay has started to show
my gnarled branches sway slowly
you can see the cracks in me
I can't hear the beatific sounds
of wind. I think of how I chimed
to its hmm. it only makes me sad;
tears slowly fall from my eyes.
music of the soil is holding me now
I like the wetness of rain as never before
rooted I stand, the wood roughened
yet I have hope that keeps me alive
new shoots will come off me,
I will again go green, leaves clinging
to me like limpets, greyness forgotten.

"running away was never a hallmark of a tree, why should I let it be now?"

nature copulates

black vines entwine
to walls in the countryside
thunders bring in the cold night
trees welcome embracing rain
just like lover his beloved

soil awaits its turn
soaking in the water
to its core through it pores
quenching its thirst
as never before

lightning strikes
showing the nudity of nature
in all its splendour
in the arms of water
pouring as if to consume.

the storm abates
hunger satisfied,
each single part replete
the earth settles about
after orgasmic release

nature rules

switching on the light

I find a slimy lizard
slithering on the wall

after a while it is
on a hot pursuit
of a tiny insect

pausing a while
it watches the insect
waiting for a kill

when insect moves
the lizard swoops
wallowing it whole

in fascinated horror,
I watch it unblinking
rooted to the spot

"death for one is food for the other"

warm feeling----One Single Impression

when droplets of rain travelled on dark clouds,
they waited to be shed at an appropriate time.

I stood there watching out for the first drops
of rains on my head, wanting and welcoming it,
a warm feeling of anticipation cocooning me.

as I waited with a peppy song in my heart,
winds came out of nowhere dispersing them
to tiny useless drops on the parched earth-

making dust rise out of it, the smell hitting
my nostrils. instead of rains, now I was swathed
with dust, a cloud of it surrounded me, almost

trapping me. somehow I escaped and as usual
my shower was simulated rainy day for me.

crossed connections----Writers Island

crossed connections convoluted
tumbled in turbine
rolled round and round
water wears it down
by its sheer will, bending it
to do its bidding
perfectly producing electricity

nature does balance out the modern world
both amalgamating smoothly
'rivals' becomes a mere word
for their relationship

numbing nirvana----read write poem/monday poetry train

photo credits: Carmi. Do click on his name or the picture and get to his blog. He takes awesome photos!

brittle branches bent over
with weight of weather,

snow forms a cover over green earth-
protective or damaging,

depending on how one sees.
looking with misted eyes
at hazy images of my neighbourhood trees
standing tall, not giving in to chill;
I think of emerald warmth-

a fleeting image receding as quickly.
shivering a litle,
I shed a few more tears,

which dry on me
by forming icicles.

numbness can only bring nirvana

I am rendered senseless,
my last coherent thoughts being,

"another new day, brightening sun
can only bring new life,
a few leaves on my branches

will make me alive in no time"

before falling apart on hard ground.

leafy tale----Writers Island

This time the prompt is to write about renewal.

I have stayed too long up here
swaying softly in sweet scented zephyr.
sensing the movement of sap
in my lucid veins
my alteration to crimson, ginger and russet,
the vibrant emerald of my youth waning.

I enjoyed the freedom of sway,
suppleness for a time,
the buzzing of bees,
the smell of my blossom cousins,
wonder of fruit laden trees
bent double with the bounty.

however, one has to move on.
sap has frozen in my veins
thoughts of softly drifting down
and touching the earth below me -
only seen till date but never felt -
brings peace to my mind.

letting loose my grip
I slowly make myself glide to lie
silently with my older sisters,
feeling the tender prod of worms
I toss back into earth, dreaming again
of budding blossoms in the spring.
