sky as my canvas of thoughts

clouds are like doors
for something above there
I get glimpses of those
and reason out scientifically
yet the beauty doesn't fade
the aura transcends,
permeates and fuses
one can't label it
the ever-changing yet static sky
grounds me. the mass of space
overwhelmes me. I get to know
my blind side, hitherto, ignored.

"doesn't it feel good to go back to being a child?"

  4. Getting to know the child in us takes only a little imagination.

  5. Ha -- combining two prompts, eh? I love this, especially the contrast of "the ever-changing yet static sky / grounds me." Thanks.

  8. Interesting poem Gautami! I like how you combine 'clouds as doors' and 'the blind side."

  9. Gautami,

Read 3 poems now. Love for child is the best emotion one has and it is so pure. This one is such a nice flight of imagination.

    Take care

  12. Very nice the way you wrote a
poem combining the two prompts. I had never thought of clouds as doors before. I will from now on. Thank you.

  14. three prompts?
I feel like a mad over-achiever if I use two, and rarely ever manage a good poem doing it. I like this one.
(even though it makes me feel like charlie brown from the peanuts comic: my clouds never form beautiful images)

  17. Thank you for giving voice to this poem. It is beautiful. I feel grounded by the sky as well. If I can't see it, I can feel trapped.

  18. A lovely meditation on clouds, or is it your eyes that wander above into sky, hand in hand with reason yet unbounded too. Many will look, but fewer see the breadth of possibilities.

Now I'm given to wonder, do clouds look back upon us as doors as well. Thanks for this poem gautami.

  19. I keep thinking of the atmosphere itself as a door, and I love your metaphor of clouds as doors. There is a part of me that wishes I could simply free-float in space, amongst the stars. I guess only at the end of this lifetime, eh?

Simply beautiful, Gautami. I love to see what other peoples' poems open up within us. Glad to be back here. Been away too long.

  20. Delightful irony that the sky grounds!

(My partner's unrealistically optimistic grandmother, always sure that the NEXT thing WOULD work out, was described at her funeral by the family minister as having her feet firmly planted in mid-air. The insubstantial and unreliable bound-to-fail hope for the future did ground her in a way realism never could. Believing up front what would, in fact, happen later would have crushed her.)

I like the ambiguity of cloud doors. When the sky is clear, are the doors all open? or all closed? When it is most overcast, are the possibilities greater than when the sun is shining?

    Nice, Gautami!

  21. I like the paradox of sky as grounding, overwhelming, ever changing, static - all true.

  22. I really like the idea of sky grounding you. The sky is so powerful it presses us to the ground. Nice use of all the prompts.

  23. Clouds as doors is a wonderful image, and I like the double meaning of "grounded" here. You pass on a real sense of childlike wonder through these lines.

  24. I love clouds, but never quite looked at them this way...but it's a great image, and one that will stick with me! Well done.
