As new as it can get----Sunday Scribblings/Cafe Writing

For someone who seldom makes resolutions for the New Year, I certainly have goals. Those are not entirely for this year. My elusive goals are not visible to any one even if I achieve those. I wish to grow in many dimensions and material aspect does not even enter into my plans. I strive to be a better person in all ways each day. I have this inner urge to learn. What I do not know, I diligently teach myself. I am grateful to my genetic make up that I got good genes as I have the aptitude to do anything if I put my mind to it. For me the newness does not happen in a new year. It happens each day of my life. I try not to reflect on the negatives. I cannot be vibrant at all times, but I need not be pensive either.

Getting into the specifics, writing is one important aspect. Those days I cannot write, I make myself write. I set myself small goals and try to touch those. Reading too is very important for me. I plan to read lot more than what I did last year.

Then there are some areas in my personal front that I need to redress and change. More important, I need to discipline my mind to accomplish all that I seek. I need to curb on my impulsiveness, which has landed me into trouble in many ways. I have won over my surge of anger to some extent. I will go on doing whatever I can for abused children. Maybe more than what I have been doing.

Each day is new, each experience is new. Hence, our perception has to be to according to what is going on each moment. Renewing ourselves is what we are doing at any given moment of time.

  1. I've been thinking along these lines for the past few days... But yesterday, my violent outburst of anger got me quite unprepared...!?:) Wish you good luck in what you intend to do this year!:)

  3. I agree - "newness does not happen in a new year. It happens each day of my life." I've been trying to make the most of each day, lately. Each day has special opportunities.

  7. I agree that we don't have to wait til the new year to make important changes in our lives, to fight for what we believe in, to grow and to learn in every minute of our life :)
    Good luck!

  8. That is a great perspective to have. Constant growth, rebirth and renewal every day in small imperceivable ways. Being the catalyst of our own growth beats waiting around for the external world to change to suit our whims.

  9. I've also told myself that I need to try and write at least for a few minutes each night. Even that is hard to do sometimes.

Reading--at least reading something well-written--always inspires me to write.

  12. Striving to do better for yourself each and every day really resonates for me. I like that approach so much better than making a whole bunch of soon to be abandoned resolutions.

  20. I didn't know about the abused children aspect of your life. As a school counselor in the US, that was on my job description - reporting cases of suspected child abuse.

Although there were some cases where you got a child out of a bad situation, there were also many times when it seemed like you stirred up lots of anxiety and commotion around something not so significant, or where something that you felt was significant wasn't acted on.

Basically, the agencies that schools report abuse to here are underfunded by the government, so they feature underpaid employees with a high turnover rate and huge caseloads. They're well meaning people, but often young and inexperienced. So when you'd call something in, it was anxiety-provoking - you didn't know how appropriate the child protective service agency's response would be.

I have to say, my last school district's agency was way better than the others, so it seems to vary here from state to state.

  21. I wish I had your discipline. I have intentions of writing every day but there are too many distractions.

  33. often times the very fact that you seem to be able to maintain a cheery blogging exterior all the time distresses me... i am envious of that,, but then i know ,, in real life,, i am that person... it is only here in the privacy of my own little blogging world that i feel comfortable and let my demons free...

this was very lovely and made me think... a winning combination in my book......
