Puddle, 1952, M. C. Escher |
I see a pattern
asymmetry of nature
unadorned in a drab canvass
footprints leads one to parents
the universal one, mother earth
she cushions the sharp edges
zigzag branches imprison the light on the ground
track marks are inevitable
to roll into invisible something
"pour water over me
let the fine details embed into me
I will draw circles
do thumb painting"
Thumb painting...:)

ReplyDeleteThey do indeed...
I love mother earth cushioning the soft edges - and the thumb painting! Cool!

I love the rich gathering of natural threads that your poem brings to life, Gautami. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYES - you must have been a child who enjoyed making mud-pies. :)
ReplyDeleteThere is certainly a softening of the harsh tyre marks.
ReplyDeleteCushioning the edges and thumbprints. Loved this

This one is my favorite read today and may be till another striking one comes....
ReplyDeleteLove love love this ... love that you played with the word tapestry ... woven images with your words ... I will re-read this poe, off and on for the next few days ...
ReplyDeleteThis is really pretty.
ReplyDeleteGautami,
ReplyDeleteRead 2 poems and what a way to talk of Mother Nature.
Take care
I have not tried to read this without the illustration you provide. I see, through your description, an entire image of the universe in that little mud puddle--from the artifacts of humans to the pinnacle of creation. I will have to re-look at finger painting and more to see what I missed when I just thought it was finger marks in the goop! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteIs it permitted to use the fingers in thumb painting? Is it permitted to use the thumb in finger painting? These are the questions that keep me awake at night.
ReplyDeleteThumb painting!
