sorting through laundry
she set about ironing out
those crinkles, singing softly
keeping in tune with
beethovan wafting out
from the next room
her fingers itched to play
yet her hand smoothened out
wrinkles out of clothes
creating more in her mind.
distractions of mundane chores
did nothing for her frustration
"bawling of her infant brought
about an instant smile-
her face glowing like thousands of lights"
Do you iron as well?
ReplyDeleteIf ya do I could have a job for ya!
"Beethovan"- that alone makes me love this one. :)
ReplyDeleteBabies are always a welcome distraction!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Too may distractions in our lives, pulling away from our desire.
ReplyDeleteAh, the nice distractions that can make the mundane worthwhile!
ReplyDeleteI loved when my daughter distracted me from my chores. Those were the best moments! She reminded me what was important.
ReplyDeleteWhile I actually find mundane chores to be quite de-stressful, nothing beats the sound of a baby's voice.
ReplyDeleteA baby is always a welcomed distraction. Love the contrast to ironing and Beethovan playing
ReplyDeleteWonderful little 'slice of life' moment!
ReplyDeleteI loved the layered distractions!
ReplyDeleteHi Gautami--
ReplyDeleteLayers of distractions here... among them possibly Beethoven!
Thank you as always for your amazing view on the world--
Such a lovely and true human moment in time. Beautifully done.
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteaw very sweet. it reminded me of ironing when i was growing up -- when I was finally allowed to iron on my own.
ReplyDeleteHope she'll get that iron done quickly !!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL! For some people, the infant crying would put the wrinkles in their forehead, not take them away. This made me love the narrator instantaneously.
ReplyDeleteironing is so ordinary and yet not really
ReplyDeleteeven the most mundane of days can sometimes have some bright spots
Oh my gosh, did this strike home with me...wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteSome distractions are wonderful!! Nice work
ReplyDeleteYou called this "mundane," and I say "hoorah" for the mundane. Merriam-Webster's dictionary's first definition of mundane is "of, relating to, or characteristic of the world." Would that all our poetry reflected the world so aptly!
ReplyDeleteI love the commonness of this. We all iron when we'd rather be doing something else. And then something even better happens.
ReplyDeleteGreat little poem!
I love this life-picture. The music of Beethoven circling in and among the motions of living. The little distraction... wonderful.
ReplyDeletesimplicity and sadness captured in few strokes
ReplyDeleteMy daughter composes and plays. She would fit your poem to a reversed tee, mundane chores do not distract her from her music.
ReplyDeleteBut helping her child does.
..
The best distraction I've ever found. A great poem.
ReplyDeletesnowy day . . .
ReplyDeletehugging the clothes
out of the dryer
Your poems shows how many places a mind can be at one time. I'll bet many a poem has been put together at the ironing board.
ReplyDeleteHi Tami, this was very sweet and bawling is certainly a distraction.
ReplyDeleteBeethovan- ah yes.
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful picture you have painted.. anything w/music to escape the chattering noise...
ReplyDeleteTami, what a graceful and flowing poem. The mind is a stranger to most who sometime fear to walk within. You are a brave one.
ReplyDeletelove,Melanie-bd
"glowing like a thousand lights" now that's the kind of distractions we like, babies. Thanks for a wonderful reminder.
