cadence

when I wandered into your street
I searched for that yellow patch
it was the sun on hay
i had tried to pick up that golden powder
you had laughed at my naiveness
you too did not understand the carnival
the celebration of little things
the way one needs courage to embrace that

"silver light of the morning turns to gold,
and then at night we are sprinkled with diamonds"

  2. Indeed.. one needs courage..perhaps more courage to accept if others laugh on our little celebrations.. Good one..

  3. Gautami, I think you are right here. A person definitely DOES need courage to celebrate the little things! I like your poem very much.

  7. That not understanding--the distance it can create. I imagine the person to whom the narrator is speaking being miles away from the speaker emotionally.

  10. Love the gold of hay

Nobody really understands. It's nice, though, when they get a little of it.

  12. It does take courage to celebrate the little things and I love how your poetry does this. This seems light compared to some of your other poetry but it settles in and hits deep with time. I admire this narrator who can still celebrate the little things despite the person laughing at her for doing so.

  13. so many details are lost in the busyness of our lives, you have depicted a nice reminder as to what we might see if we'd only slow down - and slowing down does take courage indeed!

  15. Hi Tami, in the U.S. we have a saying, "don't sweat the small stuff."
Your first person writer would have a tizzy to hear that wouldn't he/she?

  16. Absolutely!! More often than not, joy is found in the little things than the bigger ones... to know and accept that is a feat in itself!
Your words presented a clear image of a simple joy which very few can really experience (cuz they choose to)..
    A superb one shot, Gautami!
