in a roomful of plates...

why did you get me inside this house-
displayed me with the plates
I am not at home here
outside is what I prefer
I have a permanent grimace
it isn't just a phase
you have placed me in a miniscule space
separation from friends is unbearable
they sit on other shelves
I can't look down from that top shelf
my thoughts stumble and fall
I want to smash this room and break free

"merely a rooster for you, I too have a will"

This didn't come up as I desired it to yet I posted it. I might work on it a bit after some time.

  2. Powerful piece. It's so oppressive it almost hurts to read. Well done!

  3. Easy to see how anyone might feel claustrophobic in this environment!

  4. I like the way you present the view of the imprisoned artifacts. Nice!

  5. Next time an object breaks I will try to think of it as freeing!

  6. Nice! Like the way you've ascribed feelings to the rooster caught among a bunch of boring old plates :)

  9. I hear this rooster loud and clear. I'd hate to be trapped on the shelf too. Actually even if I were a PLATE I would hate to be trapped on the shelf.

  12. The rooster and the plates! Somehow I think of the Ugly Duckling story - a swan trapped in the wrong context! Interesting poem!

  16. You piece works well with the photo. Definitely an uncomfortably tight space there.

  17. Loved it! Enjoyed, with a giggle, that not all treasures enjoy their new home and would prefer to be in nature rather than symbol of nature confined to cage of a shelf. Thanks for a great poem.

  18. Your poem made me look at my own dresser, and remove a load of old photos! I hope they're now free.
