I speak out from the podium
my nimble fingers turning
pages after pages
after a short while
I stop listening to myself
meaningless words pour out
yet I don't let myself budge
and go on and on.
is it what I wanted
to do in my life,
trying to motivate others
expounding a theory
I can't comprehend
which I myself don't believe
"is it brainwashing or hogwash?"
Sounds like every political speech I've heard for the past 10 years. Good stuff.
ReplyDeletehmmm... good one.
ReplyDeleteFunny how quickly your "motivational speaking" gets misread as "political speeches," a completely different animal.
ReplyDeleteNo more spin, I say.
ReplyDeleteNicely done.
Wrapped up so nicely, enjoyed it :)
ReplyDeleteinteresting...thoughtful...!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely hogwash...heard too many of the years. This poem is very well thought out and speaks to me!
ReplyDeleteWould be awful to quit believing in your own words.
ReplyDeleteBeen there...done that! Who knows???? Loved it1

It's both - we've all been brainwashed by hogwash to some extent.
ReplyDeleteBrainwashing or hogwash is often a question we would like to ask our politicians or even our economic theorists or even any leaders appearing to be in command of it all for that matter...
ReplyDeleteGreat piece of writing!
some people come up smelling of roses...
ReplyDeleteSorry I've not been around recently.

Love this G., you can fool everybody, but not yourself, not for long
ReplyDeleteBravo!
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's just burnout. Nice post.
ReplyDeleteIt's a tragedy to not believe what you are saying.
ReplyDeleteWith so much learning..success at odd hours..and the craving for getting understood with the hope of people following..perhaps creates Motivational Speaker out of one.. how to define the end result is individual's freedom.. perhaps someone is getting motivated, changing without your knowledge.. possible...isn't it?
ReplyDeletePolitics or commercialism, it's all the same. I like the way you enter the mind of the speaker and show us her real thoughts about the product she's selling.
ReplyDeleteNice use of the words, well told, I especially enjoyed...
ReplyDeleteexpounding a theory
I can't comprehend
which I myself don't believe
excellent post!

You asked a good question. I wonder what the majority of motivational speakers and also politicians think about their abundant words.

"I stop listening to myself"
ReplyDeleteI've had to give presentations against my wishes, and had this thought :-)
You know, your poem definitely has me thinking. Thought provoking and honest!

Words are so strange - each one carries multi-meaning and nuance. I like this!
ReplyDeletesounds like my life :)
ReplyDeleteVery interesting ideas here, the thought that our own beliefs can change, and what was once important to us can now be just so much drivel...I enjoyed where you took this!
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful piece, guatami. It's hard to convince others of something in which we don't believe.
ReplyDeleteTrue, true, true!
ReplyDeleteyeah!!!... it is that fine line between here and there that teases umbilicus
ReplyDeleteThat was real nice:)
ReplyDeleteI must say I missed reading your pieces... :) was so caught up with an exam etc.. etc..
Glad to catch your work!
