motivational speaking is a hogwash

I speak out from the podium
my nimble fingers turning
pages after pages
after a short while
I stop listening to myself
meaningless words pour out

yet I don't let myself budge
and go on and on.

is it what I wanted
to do in my life,
trying to motivate others

expounding a theory
I can't comprehend
which I myself don't believe

"is it brainwashing or hogwash?"

  1. Sounds like every political speech I've heard for the past 10 years. Good stuff.

  2. Funny how quickly your "motivational speaking" gets misread as "political speeches," a completely different animal.

  9. It's both - we've all been brainwashed by hogwash to some extent.

  10. Brainwashing or hogwash is often a question we would like to ask our politicians or even our economic theorists or even any leaders appearing to be in command of it all for that matter...
    Great piece of writing!

  14. It's a tragedy to not believe what you are saying.

  15. With so much learning..success at odd hours..and the craving for getting understood with the hope of people following..perhaps creates Motivational Speaker out of one.. how to define the end result is individual's freedom.. perhaps someone is getting motivated, changing without your knowledge.. possible...isn't it?

  16. Politics or commercialism, it's all the same. I like the way you enter the mind of the speaker and show us her real thoughts about the product she's selling.

  17. Nice use of the words, well told, I especially enjoyed...

    expounding a theory
    I can't comprehend

  18. You asked a good question. I wonder what the majority of motivational speakers and also politicians think about their abundant words.

I've had to give presentations against my wishes, and had this thought :-)

  21. Words are so strange - each one carries multi-meaning and nuance. I like this!

  22. Very interesting ideas here, the thought that our own beliefs can change, and what was once important to us can now be just so much drivel...I enjoyed where you took this!

  23. Another wonderful piece, guatami. It's hard to convince others of something in which we don't believe.
