hungered-----Totally optional Prompt
However much I tried, I couldn't do this right. Even then I am posting a few American sentences taken together in a verse form.
my stomach rumbles at the sound of rice crispy packet being pulled apart
i gobble it up hungrily, crunchiness disappears into my hungry mouth
teeth grind it to a fine pulp, tongue savouring it as never before
funny noises in my belly stop suddenly to be taken over by digestive sounds
why do our very own natural bodily functions embarrass us no end?

i don't have the answer - but you are right
ReplyDelete(i will eat my lunch slowly and hope to digest it silently in case you are listening) :)
this made me laugh out loud - how true, though we aren't embarrassed as children. The second graders I work with love body sounds!
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's the difference between men and women. :)
ReplyDeletePauline, as a teacher I can vouch for the fact that kids love any kind of body sounds. Once I found that they are havinf burping contests. This too from girls..!!
ReplyDeleteCabbage or cauliflower? The rest of the story.:)
ReplyDeleteThis gave me a giggle too! Why do people get embarrassed by it...because we've been taught to?
ReplyDeletePeace Giggles
Yeah, embarrassment is better than the way my students revel in such noises!
ReplyDeleteMichele sent me!
American sentences?
ReplyDeleteThe Queen's English not good enough for you? Please don't encourage those upstart Colonials and try to maintain the usage of BBC Proper at all times.
Your stomach makes noise because it is a monstrous, composting, factory that produces 3 liters of gastric acid every day.
gurgle gurgle...
Hi from Michele's! I loved the little diddy! As far as body sounds, I have a very " proper & together" daughter who loves to burp as loudly as possible! Maybe it is also generational!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chuckle!
ReplyDeleteWell I'm 41 this year and still laugh out loud at body sounds, childish for sure.
ReplyDeleteits interesting to wonder why...
ReplyDeleteit reminds me of laying my head on someones stomach,, and hearing the sounds their digestive track is making,, sounds that cannot be heard across thin air,, but are so loud and distinct when the ear is to the belly.....
ReplyDeleteAh, the sounds of 'us'!
ReplyDeleteVery funny, but as others have said... it happens somewhere between childhood and adulthood (for most of us. ;)
ReplyDeleteHere via michele today!
Body sounds is a cultural thing, I guess....Arab tradition supposedly holds that one must chomp loudly(not like a lowly beggar eating at a corner) and burp audibly (to show appreciation for the hostess's cooking)!
ReplyDeleteLiked the lines:)
I think you did it just fine: your well chosen words force the reader to think twice about eating - something we almost never do in these rushed modern times.
ReplyDeleteOur kids aren't embarrassed at all. They find these sounds to be very amusing. I want to be more like them!
Good to see you again, Gautami. I'm visiting from Michele's today, but I look forward to catching up on my own in the days to come. You've been busy over the holiday season!
I like it...very honest and real.
ReplyDeleteThanks for popping by to read my entry.
Loved it! I don't understand why we are so embarressed by body sounds...where did we get that from. Kids aren't. We weren't born that way...and I'm noticing that really old people don't notice it either...
ReplyDeletevery good question
ReplyDeleteenjoyed!
We are afraid of all our human sounds. Charming compilation!
ReplyDeleteHi Gautami! I giggled while reading this and I can totally relate to it! I love the way you described your hunger and how you ate -- and of course the wonderful noises the body makes! This was fun reading, Gautami!
ReplyDelete:)
that's funny and i think the embarrassement is formed somewhere along the way to adulthood.
ReplyDeleteanimals have no such problems
I can hear that Rice Krispies packet being opened! Nice and cracklely!
ReplyDeleteit made me laugh when i was reading this. Wow, you pulled it off really well. You just gotta take a big , crunchy bite off of that rice crispies. wow, its rumbling now. what a coincidence:)
ReplyDelete"However much I tried, I couldn't do this right."
ReplyDeleteWhat? What what what...?!
