if you only recycled the coke cans

I tried rhyming after a long time, inluding internal rhymes and alliterations. A very very rough draft....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
global gloom outshines gold
to mere talks I am no longer sold
stocks and bonds now are trash,
no longer do they fetch any cash
if you only recycled the coke cans
you might get some good returns
nevertheless sit tight, do not panic
crashing markets are not bubonic
forget the recession, don't fall in pits
keep up your spirits along with your wits
if and buts never did anyone good
just chill and be cool, won't you, dude
we can't go back in time, why make that wish
come let's have fun eating chips with fish
  1. there are some very good rhymes and lines in here! Our cash has become trash!
    I should write a post about my best investment ever was in Coke bottles--a 50% return in a few months (from bottles we collected along the highway when I was 10 or 11) Before we exchanged the bottles, the deposit went from 2 cents to 3 cents!
  2. A very topical subject handled well in this type of poem!
    It's certainly a scary time!
  4. I admit your post is much more fun and pleasant to read than my rant on the same topic.
    Well done
  8. I love this poem! I hoard my soda cans and return them for a big payoff shortly before payday when I really need it!
  9. Pwerhaps it's time to recycle the economy and make something useful from it.
  10. A very clever and topical twist on the theme! Recycling coke cans is starting to look very much like a precious skill we might be developing quite soon!
  11. My father recently remarked that all of this is a crisis only if you need the money--to sell your stocks. He is sitting tight. He's a good money manager, thank God.
    Thanks for this poem.
  14. I'll skip the fish half of the fish and chips, but I enjoyed the bit of levity you injected into a very frightening situation.
  25. Good piece about a bad event. My timing is always bad - I buy high, sell low - stay til the lights come on or until they go out, whichever is the wrong time. Enjoyed your work!
  26. Gautami, you saved the best for last (subject covered). I love the British fish and chips.
    And TexBlu, if you return, we are having more and more of them in Texas (Houston area).
    Good returns (coke cans), non-bubonic crashing markets, recession pits, spirits and wits, ifs and buts, chill and cool. OK, cool Dude, you have a wonderful start on the rhymes as well!
    Will you do more on it? I vote to save it even if "no".
  29. The title rocks. If you're poor you're less likely to panic. If you've lived with less, you know how to manage. I know how to ride out bad times. Thanks for the read.
  35. Freedom is just another word for, nuthin' left to lose.
    Nothing (stock, capital, or derivatives) ventured,
    Nothing gained.
    What do you have against avatars anyway?
  36. Really did love the note at the end: when all else fails, smile and eat some good food with good friends...nothing more golden!
    Thanks-
