tiny shaking shakes me out
the capsules on the floor tell me a tale
she who is ramrod straight
despairs in the midst
I sit with her on the floor
embrace her to me
she gives in
but only for a while
her voices soothes me
her arms hold me
she is again the strong mother
I am again the daughter
"forever, let it be forever,
although that isn't enough either"

caricatures of vultures
staircase trembles
under glassy clouds
when paddock falls apart
settled dust rises
mother comes out of nowhere
untangles her daughter from floor
lets both their tears mingle
powder of dust mistily coating them
her daughter has to be kept hidden
her secret to be guarded
"as long as caricatures of those mighty vultures are outside"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*I thought I will not explain but I will write about vultures. They are much maligned but they do clean our environment. However, there are certain section of people who think that they have to cleanse the society. And they are the caricatures here.
mom
I watched my mother pottering
in our terrace garden
(if I can call it that)
squating on the floor,
she was tending to her precious plants
cutting those to shape,
snipping out the weeds
I could hear her humming
to the oncoming buds
her tenor changed from plant to plant
the love she poured on those
was visible to all and sundry
I and my three brothers
had been brought up in a brisk manner
(I don't remember her singing for us)
here she was with her plants
singing for them to glory
with a twinge of jealousy
I kept watching her
then it dawned on me
we too had been cut and snipped
to shape and to the right size
and her love for us had kept us
all closer and still together
"I got up and squated beside her-
she handed me over the watering-pot
and went on with her humming"
picture perfect-----Sunday Scribblings
no photograph can do justice to what I see in my mind
those crinkle around your eyes
lines in the corner of your mouth
love for life mirrored by your demeanour
your hands always doing something or the other
your ramrod straight posture
those tiny diamonds in your earlobes reflecting light
when I am dejected
I hear your firm voice inside my head
prodding me, encouraging me to go ahead
I recall you always supporting me
my decisions, after weighing the pros and cons
your love envelops me forever,
which I am assured of receiving for eternity
"how can any photograph do justice to what I see in my mind?"
