my world is inside the binds
it is expected when one has a drunkard owner
I was born outside
thunder brought me in
I want to know
what prophet said that I have to care for a sleepy person
but yes I hold all the trumps
when my owner moves in circles
he is on edge not I
life outside of that fence may be full of adventure
but within the walls I am the master
when he will finally be sober
and mends that fence
I will jump out and seen no more
"yes, you see, I can jump that fence
but I choose not to do it now
because the leaves and weeds keep me enthralled"
Beautiful. Sadly more dogs are in the same place.
ReplyDeletelovely piece...x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful write, Gautami. I hope you and yours are safe. I was watching the devastation in your part of the world. So heartbreaking.
ReplyDeletePamela
Beautifully written! Bravo!
ReplyDeleteThrough the dog you are showing the reality of a suffering human life as well. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletethunder brought me in.
ReplyDeleteleaves and weeds like people tend to grow on us.
thought-provoking poem.
Thought provoking and beautifully written.
ReplyDeletei grew up having dogs for pets; i absolutely enjoyed your doggie tale
ReplyDeletemuch love...
Poor puppy- he deserves a better home. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteInteresting poem. I liked it.
ReplyDeleteI especially love "I was born outside thunder brought me in"...nice...
ReplyDeleteI like were the words took you...giving voice to a doggie.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful piece and I sure hope the dog finds safety and love!
ReplyDeleteThe dog has hope an a plan; lucky dog. The man does not; unlucky man.
ReplyDeletemischievous moments in darkness... freedom means so much to all of us...
ReplyDeleteI feel for any dog with a drunken master. A well told tale, kiddo.
ReplyDeleteYour piece is about man not dogs.
ReplyDeleteIt is in a dog's nature to want to be outside when in and inside when out. Mankind on the other hand even soils the dirt and is not fit for this earth!
beautiful piece! i love that the dog chooses to stay despite having an owner not deserving of him.
ReplyDeleteSo well done.
ReplyDeleteAnna :o]
Seems the animals are running the farm !
ReplyDeleteNeat perspective, hard life in and not in relationship. It is easy for me to forget this poem was written by a human--and maybe about humans.
ReplyDeleteInteresting take! I like the lines: when my owner moves in circles
ReplyDeletehe is on edge not I
I can see and feel that! Nicely done!
Love this doggy tail!
ReplyDeleteNow that's an interesting take. Layers and layers in this point of view. Funny, serious, smart.
ReplyDeleteCleverly written metaphor..feeling in control is certainly all in the head..doggy or otherwise..
ReplyDeleteOhhhh. This speaks beyond canine tendencies, for certain:
ReplyDelete"yes, you see, I can jump that fence
but I choose not to do it now
because the leaves and weeds keep me enthralled"
This was fabulous!
ReplyDeleteMakes me want to run and help that puppy to get out and know happiness all the time!
ReplyDelete"thuner brought me in"--wonderful line. Poor dog; I hope he jumps the fence. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBeing a dog person I read your words with interest. Lots of sideways wisdom here, but that should be expected from a dog.

ReplyDeleteHank
One often hears how cruel some dog owners are! Great write gautami!
ReplyDeleteHank
brilliant write... I felt the dog's view somehow describes the life of humans too.
ReplyDeleteVery enjoyable!
ReplyDeleteNice take on the picture
ReplyDeleteProfound! Deeply insightful too.
ReplyDelete...but within I am master...
ReplyDeleteThat is reason enough, for some.
The final tercet adds whimsy. Love it.
ReplyDeleteGreat piece !
ReplyDeleteVery thoughtful tale!
