tale of two toes
scissor fell on my toe cutting it into two I watched part of it walk away and what remained with me jigged in glee-. it had hated that toe. being toeless was one great state I saved on the nail polish although my right foot looked ghoulishwith a hammer and chisel I matched the left to its pair it was fate that the two toes got on a dateI am left with best feet in townno, no, please don't look down!
Hilarious and quirky.
ReplyDeleteLoved the humour here - almost Kingesque.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what stimulant you are taking at the moment but it's working well and I'd like some too!
ReplyDeleteLove this piece. Iam looking at my toes now
ReplyDeleteA funny piece of toe humor here! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi Gautami,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad this finished on a fun note; I was squirming from the hammer and chisel!
from Therese B. at RWP -- This poem adds another dimension to the sidebar statement on your blog: "While you are here, don't forget to leave your footprints." Feet as a powerful metaphor for who we are, how we stand and tread, upright as human beings, on the earth.
ReplyDeleteVery darkly humorous, and a bit icky, but a fun read! Thinking of the amputated toes "hooking up". HA
ReplyDeleteGreat!
Love it! Another side of the wonderful poetess Guatami...
ReplyDeleteClever! A bit ghoulish, in a cute way. This was fun.
ReplyDeletemmm Moses knowes that his toeses aren't roses but moses supposes amiss...
ReplyDeleteOuch that was kind of dark humour.. Very abstract though could be interpreted in many ways.. Beautifuly penned..
ReplyDeleteYou got to wonder what they talked about on the date
ReplyDeleteI like the humor and the playful approach you take to this. I could visualize the cartoon like effects quite vividly.
ReplyDeleteGruesome and funny -- a great combination!
ReplyDeleteWorthy of the Brothers Grimm themselves!
ReplyDeleteI am thinking about the women in China with their bound and mutilated feet, to create daintiness. So, while your poem is funny, it has this sad connection.
ReplyDeleteI liked the rather glib attitude you managed to create.
Thank you for sculpting this tale, Gautami.
this brought a smile to my face...
ReplyDeleteI smiled through the pain of reading about severed toes... very nicely done. I loved the tone of this.
ReplyDeletesaving on nail polish probably overshadows the pain required to reach that point. Good toe tale.
ReplyDeleteIncredibly inventive, and a surprising pleasure to read (I giggled, too). Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI agree that this is remarkably inventive. There's a lot of humor but as others have pointed out, there's something sad lurking around the edges.
ReplyDeleteA bit of dark and twisted humor that I enjoyed reading (although I think I'll be keeping an eye on my toes tonight).

Thanks so much for leaving the link! This was wickedly fun - I could see Tim Burton making a short film of this - v. vivid!
ReplyDeletegautami thanks for the chuckle this afternoon! the voice in this poem is fun and witty. that lat couplet a surprise, i was thinking this might travel in the direction of jealousy and possibly rage. enjoyed!

Wow, that was an unexpected surprise. Made me smile and chuckle :)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds a bit psychedelic, but with a smiling eye.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Ralf
quirky toes are sweeet....thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteOuch, but bemusing too! You just can't turn away! It's all been well said, but I'll add my name, my appreciation here. Maybe you can give us another ghoulish treat when our October Halloween arrives!
ReplyDeletewow. the close of the first stanza is impeccably truthful! Wow, truth being collaged into a poetry about whopper lies. Gotta love it! :-)
