Baking Words-----Terzanelle-----Poetry Thursday

I have been on a reading spree. Best Sellers, Historical Romance, Whodunits, Animal related etc etc. So much so that I was confused for a while. This terzanelle is an outcome of that. Again posting it raw and unedited. It might appear vague to some.

Baking Words-----Terzanelle

Reading all those books gave me a headache
myriads of character spinning within my mind.
It would have been better if I had baked a cake

where in all that chocolate meringue one finds
nuts with glee, which can’t compare with books,
myriads of character spinning within my mind.

Plots thicken, cases solved, police chase crooks
with no avail. They too preferred to search out
nuts with glee, which don’t compare with books

of law, which, judiciary deals for weeding louts
out of the system. Sometimes police work hard
with no avail. They would prefer to search out

bakeries, where pastries don’t taste like card-
board pieces, baking is a pleasure- gloom dies
out of the system. Romances too, are so hard

to be anything but tender, seeds of hatred sigh.
Reading those books, no wonder gave a headache
so strong. Baking is sheer pleasure - gloom dies,
replaced by such hunger that can never be faked!

  5. Hi gautami,
India IS most certainly on our list, but I had run out of spots to put it...
Just last year, there were some very good specials ex Sydney, I wished we had the money at that stage!
Did you read the next post as well? It was about the Sri Lankan food festival we went to... It was very nice!
    Thanks for stopping by...

  6. I know what you mean about characters in books. Sometimes they all blend together in my mind, but I doubt if I baked them all in a cake it would turn out well...LOL

  10. what a fun poem and an original idea - all those people as layers in a cake. sheer genius!

  11. Great idea, packing all those books in a cake. It works so well and makes me smile, too. (And I am having a similar experience myself!)

There's an old-fashioned dessert called a trifle. Your poem put me in the mood of that, but is certainly not a trifle (I love that word.)

  12. This is almost a reminder that excess in anything is a mistake, if it doesn't become mundane, it becomes confusing to the senses. Baking sounds relaxing, and I am now craving walnuts and chocolate cake!

  23. The more I read, the more I think what I write is a product of what I read--and I loved how your poem put a tasty twist on that, how the words are baked into something different, more delicious than just the sum of their ingredients. I loved the different images you used, and how you tied it all together.

  24. you're coming up with new forms over and over, aren't you. :)

Hope you're having a wonderful morning in India!

  46. I used to be scared of form. I was always comfortable with the free verse. One of my friends, Stanley Shiel encouraged me to read the structured poems more often before attempting one. I took his advice.

Sometimes I too am amazed that I can write structured poetry.

All of you are so encouraging too. THANKS!
