reading the menu in the clouds outside

I see magic in this train ride
a dimension lost for the present jet set generation
not so long ago
the intrigue of a simple menu was our center
it was an avenue of change from mundane life outside
in that crisp table cloth
stains had to answer for themselves
it sounds so strange to say it
but we played by the bell

in that kettle I can still taste the tea in one such journey
the blue marks reminds me of blossoming forget me not
his benign smile takes me down memory lane

tabled forever in my mind
the intrigue has been used to soothe me

"if only life was laid out in a small tray with few complications"

  5. Great read aloud poem. If read in rhythm, it sounds very train like. Did you do that on purpose?

I am so pleased to read you on this fine Sunday!

  6. Those memories seemed to be the perfect companion, to an enjoyable journey, with more simplicity.

  7. How we all must remember our lives "...laid out on a small tray with few complications". Our worlds were small and our appetites large then. This really is a beautiful piece of writing that took me back to my childhood.

  8. I like the soft rolling movement of this piece. We all have had those singular experiences that are recalled and treasured. I too, like the stains on the tablecloth and your final line.

  10. I so loved traveling on those old trains, with tablecloths, and china........now I imagine all of that has been replaced by tea in a styrofoam cup - and now it costs so much to travel by train no one can do it any more. Sigh.

  20. nice observations. Your writing draws attention to otherwise missed details in a fun Norman Rockwell. Thanks for sharing.

  21. Thank you for your visit to my wordle...I am slow at catching up.

Trains are magical. Though the ones in my memory are NYC subways. Most of which were underground.

We do have a locomotive museum that has one and two mile train rides. I think they also offer a dinner ride. Though I have yet in twenty years to do it...
